The video Greg talks about is “An Unlikely Mormon”. It’s a DVD of his testimony of how he became Mormon given to a group of 7,000 people in Utah. He talks a whole lot different to a Mormon audience than he does on Fox TV or at a rally in Washington DC. Watch the video. I got my copy at Crowley’s bookstore at the Magic Valley Mall.
I am a firm believer of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I know it is true. I will not deny that. I will go to my grave not denying its truthfulness. I know that what you are doing and teaching is with nothing but good intentions and good faith. I just want to share an experience I had with your broadcast a few Sundays ago. We were flipping through channels the other day and make no mistake I am very curious about your religion because of the things I have heard about it. So I saw you on the CW channel doing your sermon. It wasn’t 30 seconds later that my 5 year old son said…not even knowing anything about your beliefs, “Mom this makes me feel sad and you need to turn it”. Take it or leave it, but children are very intuitive and innocent. I also just watched your commercial for your service and it appeared to me more of an ad for a horror show than a sermon. I am not trying to down your beliefs or your cause, but I am just wanting to have you maybe think about this experience and see where it may take you in your teachings and philosophies. I wish the best to you and your congregation.
Sincerely,
Karen Keller
Hi Karen,
Thanks for the kind comments….and for the kind observations. If you stay tuned I think you’ll discover that Lighthouse is generally a bright and joyful place. I teach through the Bible verse by verse so sometimes there are going to be heavy subjects addressed. But God wants His joy to be evident in us. (It reflects well on Him). Sorry if the commercial seemed a little dark, but if I remember correctly, it’s a string of people sharing how God rescued them in His grace (and it is set to some heavy music). Our production guys are always trying to be compelling in what they present to the public.
If you don’t mind my asking, what is it that convinces you that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is true (to the exclusion of all other faiths)?
Greg Fadness
Pastor Greg says “God’s kingdom is in individuals” and that “kingdom is spread from individuals to individuals”. Knowing Pastor Greg I am sure that he would agree that it’s not a church or membership in a church that saves a person, but an individual’s relationship with Jesus Christ. In John chapter 3 Jesus teaches “you must be born-again”. Being “born- again” is very important in the teaching at Lighthouse.
Karen, I would encourage you to read the gospel of John and especially Chapter 3. I would also like to invite you to come to Lighthouse. Sunday morning either at 8:45 or 10:30.
God’s peace,
Jerry Holt
Karen,
Thanks for being up front about the reality that the LDS religion is not congruent with what Lighthouse is about. Yes, there is a difference, and yet you say Greg speaks “in good faith.” Either it is good or it isn’t. Think about Greg’s question. What makes you sure that the LDS faith is true? The greatest deceptions are not overt but sublime…partial or incomplete truth is the devil’s packaging for the most effective lies. I pray that you will see God in Christ.
